Underrated Artist in Music

What is music? Music is the rhythm of sounds blended that leave impressions on ones soul bringing meaning to life in various ways in this world.  It’s the antidote to someone’s pain or like a summer breeze in the middle of July.  In today’s industry it feels like music has lost its meaning and it is struggling to find its way back. Many people enjoy the soulful sounds of music that deliver lyrical content that display real human emotion. Several television shows have opened the door for creativity whether it’s through singing, dancing, or just being simply talented in a unique way. There are also several social media networks that are thriving with talent that also help with artist recognition.  Through outlets such as YouTube, American Idol, and Sound Cloud artist are able to express themselves freely without restriction. Artist need a platform of creative freedom that helps them manage and present their art in a realistic way that’s not conformed to that of the industry, but still influential and received by an audience. For example, Tori Kelly is an artist that was discovered via You Tube due to her covering Frank Ocean’s “Thinking About You” and it went viral receiving twenty-four million views. Tori auditioned for American Idol Season 9, but failed to make the final 24. Following the audition Tori released two EP’s one in 2012 called Handmade Songs in which she wrote, mixed, and produced herself along with 2013’s Foreword which helped her gain more recognition. She released her first album Unbreakable Smile on June 23, 2015 and it debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. The nominations for the Grammy’s were just announced on December 7, 2015 and she has been nominated for Best New Artist. She is a great example of an underrated artist.
