How To Make A Profit While Making A Change

HowTo Make A Profit While Making A Change, a speech by Audrey Choi, was the TED video that I chose to watch and it encouraged me in several ways. Audrey Choi is an investment expert that believes that we as individuals have the power through global capital to make a difference by investing in companies that support social value and sustainability. I found it very intriguing that she became inspired by her mother’s decision to have freedom to make her own decisions and write her own story as her motivation towards financial freedom. I think she makes a very feasible point when it comes to building a successful brand and that you have to set the foundation on a good platform. Audrey mentioned a research study done at the Harvard Business School, and if corporations wanted to protect the value of their investment that they had to preserve their socially conscious mission, if they didn’t their brands wouldn’t make more money like they should.” She believes it is an exception in regards to bigger companies to just do investments a certain way. I like how she introduced a model that if a company focused on growing their business on the most important environmental and social issues that more money could be made long term. She emphasized that the growth of a company heavily relies most importantly on focusing on what helps the company long term and not just short term. For example, higher employee loyalty, retention, productivity, long-term results of the company and communities they serve are just a few things.  I strongly believe in the saying “be the change you want to see”, if no one is willing to help or give you an opportunity create your own there is nothing stopping you.
